Day #28

"Wives, submit to your husbands, as to the Lord, for the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is the head of the Church; and He is the saviour of the body." Eph 5:22-23

Instead of adopting the more specific husband-wife perspective, I guess I'm considering it from a much broader bird's eye view.

The short passage that follows after that refers heavily to the concept of submission.

What is submission?

From what I understand, submission can mean ' a deference of authority to another person', or even 'giving up your chance to lead so others can.'

And we choose to submit, not out of fear, not out of compulsion, but out of love.

Sometimes submission brings out the best in the people you are submitting to. In order to lead well, one must first learn how to serve, and follow.

Take Jesus as our ultimate example. The son of God, not once did he shy away from serving, from following, even though he was sent as our Messiah, the one who would lead us out from slavery. Following and serving are thus very real postures of submission, and ones we sometimes neglect.

It's because we acknowledge there is a higher power, a higher calling, so it should come to us as only natural to submit. Even though we are perfectly capable of taking control of our lives (or not), out of love we should choose to be submissive in all things to our Father, and surrender our lives, which He gave us by grace in the first place, back to Him.

Prayer : God, I confess i have not been submissive like Your word says. Forgive my stubbornness and soften my heart. Teach me the posture of humility, of patience, and of love. We know it has never been, and never will be, about us, but all about You Lord. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
